Andrés Simón, known in the artistic world as Charlie Simón,
was
born in Villa Altagracia, Dominican Republic, in 1962. Son of
Dominican
and Haitian parents, from short age was interested in the Arts
and with
hardly twelve years already he had participated in several
exhibitions , obtaining important prizes in that area.
He
studied next to the Master Felix Polanco and later on he participated in
another course of design and drawing in the school of
Altos de Chavón in
La Romana.
For Charlie Simón Las Terrenas has been the greater
source of inspiration. As per his own words "It is here where I found
that scent to nature that I consider so important for my inspirations. I
invite all the lovers of the Arts and the Nature to come to share with us"
.
Charlie Simón is known as the Master of the afro
caribbean symbols because of the intrigue and magic of his ocher colours;
when looking at his Work we can imagine a trip to the past where he invites
us to communicate with our ancestors, our roots and our culture.
He has made several individual exhibitions and presently he has a permanent
one in the Nuevo Mundo Gallery in Paris.
