Casabe means "the bread" in Taino; the bread
is the life base... we wish that the culture and the interchange could be a
source of happiness and light...

The tourism and economic development in Las Terrenas
brought a lot of dominican families from other regions to come here looking
for a job to improve their quality life. Therefore, there is wasa
significant demographic evolution (average number of children in Domican
Republic families is 5) for wich the social and scholar estructures were not
ready. The public school is running just 4 hours a day, so the most part of
the time the children are in the street.
From another side, the
continuous increase of different comunities arriving to Las Terrenas has
produced disadjustments at all levels.
|
 |
This is why,
in 1995, CASABE was created as a cultural center open to all children living
in Las Terrenas so they could discover their talents and qualities and live
with different cultures, independently of their financial
possibilities.
Their work main goal is to reach, through the
workshops, a regular communication between children from all cultures and
nationalities, all social classes together, so in the future, those children
can be able to continue living happy together.
CASABE activities
include Theater, Reading and Writting introduction, Painting and other Arts.
